SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The City of Spokane Valley is inviting the entire community to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a free picnic event this Saturday.
The celebration runs from noon to 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Balfour Park. The city is partnering with the Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution, the Spokane County Library District, and other organizations for the event.
Attendees are asked to bring their own lunch and a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy an afternoon of live music and history. The U.S. Navy Band Northwest will perform, and organizers have planned various kids’ activities.
One unique feature of the event will be family history research stations, where people can learn more about their ancestors who may have fought in the Revolutionary War.
“We are going to have tables set up, and we are going to have computers. So if you come out to our table and ask, we will be able to see if we can try to find a patriot for you who fought in the revolution,” said Rae Anna Victor, who leads the America 250 committee.
The event also includes a Living History Program with historical costumes, colonial games, and educational materials. Organizers plan to take a community group drone photo at 1 p.m.
