Wanted sex offender arrested in Omak

OMAK, Wash. — A man wanted for escaping the Spokane Residential Reentry Center was arrested by U.S. Marshals agents Thursday in Omak.

Steven Ray ST Peter was convicted in 2014 of a sexual offense with a victim under the age of 12. The crime was committed on the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, ST Peter escaped from the Spokane Residential Reentry Center on April 22.

The center is designed to help people transition back into society after serving time in prison.

Thursday, law enforcement served an arrest warrant for ST Peter in Omak and found him hiding underneath clothing in a closest.

“The successful apprehension of this fugitive highlights the strength of collaboration between federal, tribal, state, and local law enforcement agencies,” said U.S. Marshal Craig Thayer. “Violent offenders who attempt to evade the justice system will be pursued and held accountable for their crimes.”

The Colville Tribal Police Department, Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office, and Omak Police Department assisted in the arrest.

Following his arrest, ST Peter was transported to the Spokane County Jail were he awaits further court appearances.
