Students return to Ferris High School following HVAC malfunction evacuation

SPOKANE, Wash. — Students and staff at Ferris High School are returning to the building Friday after firefighters determined smoke reported inside the school was caused by an HVAC fan, according to Spokane Public Schools.

The smoke originated in a second-floor bathroom after an HVAC motor became stuck.

The Spokane Fire Department completed its investigation and confirmed there is no ongoing safety concern.

Students were temporarily evacuated as a precaution while emergency crews investigated the source of the smoke.

Spokane Public Schools said students will return to class shortly as staff coordinate a safe and orderly re-entry into the building.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
