Backpacks for Kids fundraiser launches 17th annual campaign at NomNoms

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Salvation Army of Spokane launched its 17th annual Backpacks for Kids fundraiser today, kicking off a register round-up campaign at local NomNom convenience stores that will run through July 10.

“We’re already thinking back to school because this event takes so much planning,” said Captain David Cane of The Salvation Army of Spokane. “We’re talking about three thousand backpacks for kids who normally wouldn’t have access to the resources and supplies.”

The partnership with NomNom convenience stores allows customers to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar or donate additional amounts. Store officials say even small contributions can make a significant impact.

“If everyone donates a couple of cents, we could be over our goal of $50,000,” said Sam McGovern, retail admin assistant at NomNom. “The Salvation Army uses those funds really well for kids in our community, it can go a long way.”

The Salvation Army says the annual distribution event helps struggling families prepare their children for the upcoming school year. For many local students, the backpacks and supplies represent essential tools for academic success.
