SPOKANE, Wash. — Some of Spokane’s top ParaSport athletes will be competing on the international stage at world class events in South America and Asia representing Team USA.

Athletes from ParaSport Spokane: Bob Hunt, Taylor Swanson and Michael Anwar will be traveling internationally to compete.

Hunt will be competing in the 100m and 400m race while Swanson will compete in both the 100m and 200m in Chile. Now, Anwar will be heading to Thailand and will be the first male frame runner from USA to compete at the World ParaSport Championship.

Michael Anwar was in Paris over the summer to compete and placed seventh at the World Championship.

Frame running uses a three wheeled apparatus that helps stabilize the runner as they are sprinting. The saddle unit then counteracts lateral sway and also can be used as a seat.

As all three athletes will be representing Team USA, but also representing the City of Spokane. Bob Hunt said, “It’s an amazing feeling starting from the local town of Spokane to competing at the international level.”

Hunt and Swanson will leave on Wednesday for Chile, while Anwar leaves at the end of the month for Thailand.

This trip is not cheap; ParaSports Spokane will be hosting a banquet to help raise money for athletes traveling internationally or competing locally.

To support all athletes, there will be a ParaSport Banquet on Jan. 27. Early bird tickets are on sale for $75 and $750 a table. They are also seeking corporate sponsors for this event.

If you are interested in attending or wanting to sponsor this event, please go to the ParaSports Spokane website.
