SPOKANE, Wash. — For the second year in a row, Whitworth University has been awarded $25,000 from Gesa’s Local Heroes Grant Program. These additional funds will be used purchase a wheelchair ramp for the Military and Veterans Resource Center.

“We were so blessed to receive a $15,000 grant from Gesa last year,” says Josh Hibbard, Whitworth’s vice president for enrollment management.

“That funding allowed us to make important upgrades to the Military & Veterans Resource Center… To receive this additional funding this year is incredible. It brings us one step closer to purchasing a wheelchair ramp for the disabled veterans and guests who visit MAVRC” said Hibbard.

Gesa’s Local Heroes Grant Program has provided more than $1,000,0000 to 108 organizations across Washington state. The program funds organizations that assist Local Heroes in Washington, such as firefighters, healthcare workers, law enforcement, teachers and veterans.

Don Miller, president and CEO of Gesa Credit Union said, “We are inspired by the remarkable efforts of Whitworth that continue to make a positive and lasting impact, and we’re thrilled to honor their work with our Local Heroes Grant award today.”
