Investigation expands in search for teen allegedly involved in shooting near CWU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Ellensburg Police Department is still searching for the 17-year-old male suspected to be involved in a deadly shooting near Central Washington University.

According to a Facebook post by the Ellensburg Police Department, the investigation has expanded to include people who might be assisting the suspect to avoid arrest. Investigators believe that the shooting was not a random act of violence.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The Ellensburg Police Department has issued a warrant for a 17-year-old male involved in a shooting that happened near Central Washington University.

This incident is connected to the shooting near University Way and N. Main St. near Jack in the Box and people are being asked to avoid the area of Water Street to C Street, to stay inside and to lock their doors.

One person was confirmed dead from the shooting.

Ellensburg police stated that “under the law, he is a juvenile, and under the law, we cannot identify him by name or by photograph — even if he is the suspect in a violent crime. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.”

Police are still searching for the teenager.
