SPOKANE, Wash. — Avista is warning customers about a fake GoFundMe account circulating the community. This scam is asking for donations to “establish a fund to help workers facing unexpected financial challenges”.

Yesterday afternoon, Avista released a statement after receiving reports of a recent scam. Multiple customers on the Palouse have been targeted by these scammers.

They allegedly have been sent a GoFundMe account asking for funds aimed to “establish a fund to help [Avista] workers facing unexpected financial challenges”. The account used for this scam is not verified or authorized.

With emergency situations, like the natural gas outage on the Palouse, scammers will attempt to trick people into complying with their demands. And unfortunately, many people become a victim to these fraudulent scams.

If you or anyone you know have seen this or anything unusual, Avista urges you to report it to the police. Be on alert for any suspicious requests or interactions you have with anyone who may be impersonating a company.

Additionally, Avista customers should not give any suspicious individual access to their home or personal information.
