Washington’s largest labor union endorses “uncommitted” over Biden for upcoming Presidential primary

SPOKANE, Wash — Across the U.S. there has been a push to choose the “uncommitted” option instead of voting for President Joe Biden or any other candidate.

Washington State’s largest labor union, The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW)’s Chapter 3000 endorsed the “uncommitted” option.

The goal of the “uncommitted” option is to show dissatisfaction with Biden and for people to express disappointment with the options of Former President Donald Trump or President Biden.

UFCW 3000 represents more than 50,000 grocery workers in Washington, Idaho and Oregon. It is the biggest UFCW local union in Washington and the largest local UFCW union in the nation.

“Biden has undoubtedly been the best president for labor and for workers rights in the last 50 years. And we want to see that legacy continue… [but] we need that candidate who is out there and campaigning vigorously and making the case to continue all that good work and to protect workers,” Joe Mizrahi, the Secretary Treasurer for UFCW 3000, said.

“Right now, we just haven’t seen that from Biden on the campaign trail,” Mizrahi said.

The other reason UFCW 3000 endorsed the “uncommitted” option is due to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

“We feel like there is more that the U.S. can be doing. And, more that President Biden specifically can be doing to call for a permanent ceasefire,” Mizrahi said.

President Biden recently won the Democratic Primary in Michigan. However, over 100,000 voters in Michigan voted “uncommitted.” This was likely in response to those opposed to the Biden Administration’s handling of the Palestinian-Israel war.

“I think it’s great that the voters feel like they have a right…to tell the President they are unhappy with things. These are people who are already Democrats who will most likely vote in November for our nominee,” Naida Evans Spencer, the Chair of the Spokane County Democrats, said.

UFCW also suggests they have concerns about how electable Biden could be.

“Maybe the ‘uncommitted’ vote will be the wake-up call that his camp needs to go out there and campaign aggressively like he did four years ago. Like he did when he was running as Vice President with Obama… we would love to see that,” Mizrahi said.

Mizrahi told NonStop Local that UFCW 3000 will support Biden if he is the Democratic nominee for President.
