Liberty Lake Police Department warn public of scam calls claiming to be police

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – A common scam is being funneled through the Liberty Lake and Spokane area pretending to be law enforcement.

The scam could be a number of things all claiming to be law enforcement informing you. They usually “spoof a legitimate number” according to police in an attempt to seem credible.

Liberty Lake Police say they will usually pose as a number of things, but a few common ones may be a missed jury duty, a warrant for your arrest or paying a fine.

Police want to remind the public that no law enforcement agency will ask you to pay to avoid being arrested. Especially not with any gift card or cryptocurrency.

If you believe you are being scammed, Liberty Lake Police say to ask the scammer to meet at a police department to verify the claims.
