Spokane woman survives Oregon plane crash, 2 others dead

PORTLAND, Ore. – A Spokane woman is recovering in the hospital after a plane crashed into an Oregon home on Oct. 3, killing two others.

According to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue (TVF&R), crews responded to reports of a small plane spiraling toward the ground near Newberg, Oregon. When first responders arrived, they found the plane crashed through the roof of a house near North Cedar Street.

TVF&R said upon initial investigation, two people were found inside the plane. One was pronounced dead on the scene, with the other, 20-year-old Emily Hurd from Spokane, life-flighted to a local hospital with critical injuries. As crews gained more access to the aircraft, they found a third victim, also pronounced dead on the scene. No one on the ground was injured in this crash.

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department named the two victims, 20-year-old Barrett Bevacqua and 22-year-old Michele Cavallotti of Hillsboro.

First responders conducted many searches of the home and confirmed everyone was able to evacuate safely. The Red Cross is assisting the family displaced by this incident.

The Newberg-Dundee Police Department is working in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board to investigate and determine a precise cause of death and what led to the crash.

The TVF&R, Newberg-Dundee Police Department, Dundee Fire, Dayton Fire, Portland General Electric, Northwest Natural Gas, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board responded to this incident.
