SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department (SPD) responded to more than 85 crashes from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 after snow hit the region.

Spokane police said most crashes occurred on the lower South Hill, stressing the area is ‘really dangerous.’ You are asked to avoid the area altogether if possible.

Many roads on the lower South Hill are closed. SPD is in the process of barricading the most troublesome areas but could not provide specific roads.

Many of these crashes involve multiple vehicles. SPD said most people sustained minor injuries and minor damage to their cars.

At least five city vehicles were involved in a crash. Crews are continuing to plow, sand and deice the roadways.
