Spokane museum earns rare unconditional reaccreditation from national alliance

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture has earned unconditional reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, joining an elite group of just 1,100 museums nationwide with this distinction.

Out of more than 30,000 museums across the United States, only a small fraction meet the alliance’s highest standards for excellence, accountability and leadership. The unconditional status is particularly rare and came after an intensive 18-month review process.

“We are incredibly proud of this achievement,” said Wes Jessup, executive director of the MAC. “This recognition affirms our commitment to delivering meaningful, high-quality exhibitions and educational experiences to Spokane and the broader Inland Northwest.”

The accreditation strengthens the museum’s ability to attract world-class traveling exhibitions, secure international art loans and compete for major grants from foundations and government agencies.

The museum originally received accreditation in 2011. The recent process included comprehensive evaluations and an on-site visit by alliance peer reviewers. The reaccreditation remains valid through 2036.
