BALTIMORE, MD.-A cargo ship hit the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore on the morning of March 26, causing the bridge to collapse.

A Baltimore City Official called the crash a “developing mass casualty event” and rescue and recovery efforts were underway for most of the day.

President Biden addressed the nation concerning the bridge collapse, as did numerous city and federal officials.

United States Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, released the following statement after the bridge collapse.

“My prayers are with all those affected by the bridge collapse,” Sen. Cantwell said. “Thank you to the Coast Guard and the brave first responders who continue to tirelessly work on rescue efforts and I will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
