Oregon State, Washington State receive court date in legal battle over Pac-12 future

COLFAX, Wash. — Another court date has been set for Washington State University and Oregon State University’s legal action against the departing 10 members of the Pac-12.

According to a filing on Wednesday, a preliminary injunction hearing is set for Nov. 14 in Whitman County, with Judge Gary Libey presiding once again.

Libey, a graduate of Washington State, granted a temporary restraining order blocking the Pac-12 board from meeting during a hearing earlier in September.

Leaders from Washington State and Oregon State have repeatedly said they intend to preserve the conference, but they need to better understand the assets and liabilities involved in that before the can move forward.

In court, they’ve argued the departing ten schools have no incentive to preserve the conference. They’ve also argued the schools violated the conference’s by-laws when they announced their intent to leave.

Previously, presidents from USC, UCLA and Colorado were excluded from board meetings after they announced their intentions to join different conferences.
