Multiple detained related to ongoing death investigation in northeast Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – Multiple people were detained Thursday night in connection to an ongoing death investigation in northeast Spokane.

On Dec. 14, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) and SWAT teams established a search warrant near the 4100 block of East Fairview Avenue. SPD confirmed the warrant was in connection to an ongoing investigation of the death of two people Friday night.

On Dec. 8, 37-year-old Colton Russell and 23-year-old Kiara Morgan-Weiland were found dead. That day, SPD responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the area of East Cleveland Avenue and North Cuba Street.

The heavy police activity closed multiple roads in the area that are now open.

Spokane’s Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate.

Multiple local law enforcement agencies and SWAT teams are in Spokane’s Minnehaha neighborhood Thursday night in connection with a pending death investigation.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) confirmed with NonStop Local that a search warrant is being served near East Fairview Avenue and North Myrtle Street in connection to a death investigation where two people were found dead after a reported shooting last week.

Nearby roads are closed for law enforcement, you should avoid the area.
