Mayor slams verdict in Spokane ICE protest trial

Spokane, Wash– Mayor Lisa Brown released statements following the verdict in the trial that found three protesters guilty of conspiring to injure or impede officers during a protest at an ICE facility.

Mayor Brown said “since the federal charges were filed, I have maintained this prosecution was politically motivated. It was meant to make an example out of people who disagreed with federal immigration policy.”

She also wrote “the right to peacefully protest and criticize the government is a cornerstone of our democracy. We cannot allow these verdicts to silence us.”

These statements come following the jury finding Justice Forral, Jac Archer, and Bajun Mavalwalla guilty.
