SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Deshaun Crawford was shot and killed in a home that left his family with little to no answers for over a year. The man who killed him served 52 days in jail and was then released.

Deshaun Crawford was killed February 8, 2023, and his death became somewhat of a mystery for the next year.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Spokane Valley from reports of a shooting that had happened two hours prior.

When police arrived at the home, Crawford was already dead.

Police investigated his death for a year with no answers until reports of a man arrested in Puyallup and taken to Pierce County Jail revealed a lead.

Darrell Harris, 38, was arrested in January on suspicion of Crawford’s death.

Harris pleaded guilty March 18, to first degree manslaughter but was only sentenced to 54 days in jail that they credited to his time served waiting for his sentence.

He was ordered to pay $4,277 in restitution and was issued a no contact order with a few Crawford’s family members including Deshaun’s mother Donna.

Court documents revealed that cases like this typically have sentences of 78-102 months on the low end and life in prison on the high end.

Documents provided reason for his exceptionally short sentence with “substantial and compelling reasons.”
