37 Washington airports receive nearly $200 million in federal funding for improvements

SPOKANE, Wash. – A total of $190,387,738 has been allocated to 37 airports across the state of Washington by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Airport Improvement Program to improve runways, maintenance areas and equipment.

This money has been funded from multiple airport grant programs including: Airport Infrastructure Grants, Airport Terminal Program, which are funded through the BIL, and the Airport Improvement Program.

“This year, 37 airports across the State of Washington received a total of nearly $200 million in federal funding to add capacity for more flights, modernize aging facilities, and improve the overall experience of travelers coming in and out of our state. The benefits of these investments can also be felt far beyond our airports – stronger air service translates to economic growth, high-paying jobs, and increased connectivity between our rural and urban communities,” Sen. Cantwell said.“Airports are absolutely essential to getting people where they need to go—and when our airports lack the capacity, infrastructure, or technology to serve passengers efficiently, it can cause major headaches and delays.”

Here is a summary of the funding received by airports located in each region:

Puget Sound: $79,358,033Eastern Washington:$73,527,247Central Washington: $18,890,647Northwest Washington: $16,568,340Southwest Washington: $789,471Olympic Peninsula: $1,254,000

For the Puget Sound, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport will be receiving a bulk of the funding. They will use $68,102,862 to:

Improve, modify and rehabilitate terminal buildingsThey will add additional security screening capacityExpand access roadNoise mitigation measures for public buildings with 65 – 69 DNLAcquire snow removal equipmentNoise mediation measures for residences within 62 – 69 DNLand Reconstruct taxilane

In Eastern Washington, Spokane International Airport will receive more than half of the funding ($53,736,764) to improve:

Expand apron and construct taxilaneTerminal renovation and expansionand Terminal – PFC only: Gates and Related Areas

Also Pullman/Moscow Regional Airport, which is a gateway for college students on the Palouse, will receive $8,410,206 to improve:

Gate and Boarding Bridge for New TerminalConstruct Terminal Building, Environmental Mitigationand Construct Terminal Building

The airports in Central Washington receiving funds include: Pangborn Memorial Airport, Tri-Cities Airport, Yakima Air Terminal/McAllister Field, Bowers Field, Lake Chelan Airport, Prosser Airport and Richland Airport.

Then over in Northwest Washington the $16,568,340 will go to improve Snohomish County Airport, Skagit Regional Airport, Bellingham International Airport, Friday Harbor Airport, Lopez Island Airport, Orcas Island Airport and Anacortes Airport.
