Man accused of shooting man near Jack in the Box in Spokane Valley made first appearance

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The man accused of killing a man near a Jack in the Box in Spokane Valley on Sept. 3 has made his first appearance in court.

46-year-old Jason Barton was arrested in connection to this shooting. He has been charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

On Sept.2, around 3:30 p.m., Spokane Valley deputies found a man bleeding from his chest. They provided medical aid but unfortunately the man died at the scene.

Major Crimes Detectives investigated this incident and connected Barton to the incident. They found him at his home and took him into custody without incident.

Court documents say that they Barton was seen on security footage riding his bike past the Jack in the Box on Sept. 2. He was seen stopped next to the location where the victim and his girlfriend were sitting.

So far, police have not found a motive on why this happened.

Jason Barton remains in jail with a $1,000,000 bond and will be back in court on Oct. 17.
