Local schools honored as Washington Distinguished Schools

SPOKANE, Wash – Two schools in the Inland Northwest were named Distinguished Schools in the state of Washington.

Davenport Senior High School in Davenport and McDonald Elementary School in the Central Valley School District received the honors from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

They’re among four schools statewide to receive the honor.

Both were recognized for exceptional student performance and academic growth.

“OSPI’s Title Programs Office reviews eligible schools and selects recipients. Schools are eligible for the ESEA Distinguished Schools Award if at least 35% of their student population is identified as low-income,” OSPI said in a news release. “The award honors schools that show a commitment to exceptional student performance, closing achievement gaps, and excellence in serving special populations of students. “

The schools will receive a plaque and $5,000 for use toward professional development, team building or other program development.

Ruth Livingston Elementary in Pasco and Vale Elementary in Cashmere earned recognition as National Distinguished Schools.
