Gonzaga MBB drops to No. 15 in Associated Press Top 25 after loss to UConn

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs have dropped five spots in the Associated Press Top 25 to No. 15 after a 13-point loss to UConn.

The defending national champs jumped on the Zags first in the Continental Tire Seattle Tip-Off last Friday and never gave up the lead, at one point leading by as much as 18. GU fought back in the second half and made it a 10-point game with 4:04 to go. But the Huskies proved to be too much for the Bulldogs and won it 76-63.

Gonzaga (8-3) dropped from No. 10 to No. 15, their lowest ranking this season, and the UConn Huskies (10-1) stayed at No. 5 in the AP poll.

The Purdue Boilermakers, who beat the Zags in the Maui Invitational back on Nov. 20, jumped back to No. 1 in the rankings after they took down then No. 1 ranked Arizona. Purdue was ranked No. 1 earlier in the season during week four. The Arizona Wildcats moved down to No. 4 after the loss.

Kansas stayed at No. 2 after beating Indiana by four points, and Houston moved up one spot to claim No. 3 in the nation.

Oklahoma continued to climb the ranks this week, jumping up four spots to No. 7. Tennessee and Kentucky also made big jumps; the Volunteers went from No. 12 to No. 8, and the Wildcats moved up from No. 14 to No. 9.

Baylor replaced Gonzaga at No. 10 after falling four spots after a loss to Michigan State. For the full list of the top 25 rankings, click here.
