SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a large house fire on north Dick Road as a plume of black smoke was seen in the sky.

On Nov. 29 at 11:53 a.m., Spokane Valley firefighters were called to a working fire near north Dick Road near Sinto in Spokane Valley.

According to Spokane Valley Fire Department’s, Patrick Erickson, the father was inside feeding his kids when he looked outside and saw a fire at the back of the house near the chicken coop.

He was able to evacuate safely while fire crews entered the home to fight the fire.

All pets were able to make it out of the home safely as well. There was one dog unaccounted for but firefighters were able to go back inside and find it.

There was a massive response to this fire. As the flames were out, there was extensive damage to the home. It is unclear at this time what the status of the chicken coop is or if it could be involved.

Neighbors in the area say that they heard a large explosion and felt the ground shake prior to the fire. Crews are continuing to investigate what may have caused that.

At this time, firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire and there were no injuries reported.

A fire investigator and crews will be on scene for several hours gathering evidence to see what caused this fire.

This is breaking news, information will be updated as we learn more.
