Defense in case of accused University of Idaho students murderer to call witness at hearing

MOSCOW, Idaho – The man accused of killing four University of Idaho students is due back in court on Thursday as his defense team will call a witness in a hearing on their motion to compel the prosecution turn over some evidence in the case.

The defense for Bryan Kohberger has continued to push the court to grant them access to certain evidence they say the prosecution has, including dashcam footage related to the search warrant at his Pennsylvania home and lab testing results.

Filings related to Thursday’s hearings don’t make clear who the defense’s witness will be.

In a decision that followed a contentious hearing earlier in May, Kootenai County Judge John Judge, who is presiding over the case, determined that Thursday’s hearing will remain open unless topics covered under the gag order comes up.

Two more hearings regarding the defense’s motion to compel are set for May 30. One of those hearings is set to be closed, while the latter will be open — although Judge may close that one based on the same criteria set for Thursday’s hearing.

The past few months of often very contentious hearings are all setting the stage for a much-anticipated change of venue hearing set for June 27.
