KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho – A bicyclist is dead after being hit by a car near Hayden on Wednesday.

Deputies with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) responded to reports of an injury crash around 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 27. Deputies said when they arrived at the intersection of West Lancaster Road and North Vernon J. Baker Boulevard, they immediately provided medical attention to the bicyclist.

83-year-old Ernest Miller was transported to Kootenai Health, where he later died.

Upon initial investigation, KCSO said it appeared that Miller was riding his bike southbound on Vernon J. Baker Road and failed to stop for the posted stop sign when a car driving westbound hit Miller. Impairment and speed do not appear to be a factor in this crash.

KCSO continues to investigate this incident.
