Spokane Library System receives sustained funding from voters

SPOKANE, Wash.- A levy to sustain funding levels for the Spokane Public Library system was approved by 56.6% of voters on Feb. 13.

According to the library system, levy funding accounts for approximately 18% of the annual budget of the Lilac City’s libraries.

The levy approved during Tuesday night’s special election will allow Spokane libraries to keep all branches open daily, and will support STEM and arts programming.

Executive Director Andrew Chanse thanked voters for the continued support in an email to library patrons.

“I appreciate the public’s confidence in Spokane Public Library and promise to continue to be good stewards of these scarce tax dollars,” Chanse said.

The library system will continue to be funded at the same tax rate for the next three years.
