After first snowfall of the season, it might be time for snow tires

SPOKANE, Wash. – The first snow of the season graced Spokane with it’s presence this week, which means it is probably a good idea to switch over to snow tires.

The bad news is that most local shops are not doing appointments, and if they are, they probably won’t have openings until December.

The good news is that most shops are doing walk-ins. Nonstop local reached out to Tire-Rama, Perfection Tire, Les Schwab and Spokane Tire Center. Here is what we found.

Most open at 8 or 8:30 a.m., but if you show up at that time you will probably have to wait in a line and be without your car for most of the day. Average wait time is about 5 hours unless you are right at the front of the line, which means you probably have to be there an hour or so before they open.

The price of the switch all depends on the make and model of your car, the size of the tires, and where your tires are from.

Most places are charging anywhere from $50-$200 to swap four average tires, but that number can vary.

Snow tires are important because they can give you better traction on the road in freezing temperatures. Especially if you are new to driving in the snow, the more traction you have, the better.
