EAST WENATCHEE, Wash. – For the second time in a week, a five-vehicle crash at the construction site on SR-28 resulted in injuries. This time, two people were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to Washington State Patrol, the crash happened just before 10 p.m. on Sept. 26. Four cars were stopped in the eastbound lane of the construction zone on SR-28 when a 42-year-old man driving a 2000 Chevy Silverado failed to stop.

The man struck a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer, injuring the driver and sending the Lancer into a third car, which in turn struck a fourth car, which was pushed into the fifth.

The Silverado and Lancer were totaled in the accident, while the other three cars were damaged. The drivers of the totaled vehicles were transported to Central Washington Hospital for treatment. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt.

The highway was blocked for around an hour while crews cleared the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it’s unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved.

Construction began on SR-28 in July and looks to improve road conditions, add rumble strips, and expand the lanes. The construction zone is flagger-controlled from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays, and the project is expected to last through mid-October. Drivers in the area should be prepared for delays during construction hours.
