1 found dead in Clarkston house fire

CLARKSTON, Wash. – One man is dead after a house fire on Monday night in Clarkston.

According to Asotin County Fire District #1, crews responded to a structure fire on Bridger Lane just before 10 p.m. on Sept. 25. At the home, they found active fire on the front porch. They were able to extinguish the porch fire and found a man just inside the front door, already deceased.

Firefighters from ACFD1 and Lewiston Fire Department were able to put out the rest of the fire inside the home. There were no other occupants inside, and no other injuries were reported.

The victim was identified as 54-year-old with disabilities, Joseph Sarbacher. He died from the smoke and fire before he was able to evacuate. His next of kin was notified.

Fire and deputy investigators are continuing to look into the cause and origin of the fire. Anyone with information is asked to call the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office at 509-243-4717.
