SPOKANE, Wash.- A woman who was threatening self-harm was detained by Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies and transported to medical treatment on Feb. 22.

The Spokane Valley Police Department and the county sheriff’s office emphasized the importance of automatic license plate reader technology in coordinating the effort.

The caller who initially reported the mental health crisis did not know where the woman was, but did have information about her car.

Deputies used a license plate reader to find the car, which was moving toward the Spokane Valley.

She was found in her car in a parking lot, and delivered to a medical facility.

If you or a loved one is experiencing a mental health crisis, the National Suicide and Crisis Hotline can be contacted at 988.
