Spokane County Library District offers free spring events

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Library District (SCLD) will hold a variety of free activities and events for all ages this April.

For adults the SCLD announced five birdwatching presentations and guided walks with the Spokane Audubon Society, a Geo-Walk and Water Sampling event at Medical Lake on Saturday, April 13 at Waterfront Park and eight gardening workshops from WSU Extension Spokane County Master Gardener Volunteers.

A series of financial workshops will also be held for adults, including an hour-long online educational debt-reducing workshop with BECU on Tuesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. and a professional document shredding event on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at both the North Spokane and Spokane Valley locations. All-day in-person payments for Spokane County Property Tax will also be offered at the North Spokane Library on Tuesday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 23.

Additionally, a video-editing presentation will also be held for adults at the Spokane Valley Library on Saturday, April 20 at 4:30 p.m.

An eight-session balance class will also be offered for individuals age 60 and above to prevent falls and gain confidence and new skills to get active.

The SCLD Online Authors Series will feature Curator Paula John discussing Smithsonian American Food on Tuesday, April 2 at 11 a.m., National Book Award-winner Colum McCann joined by Diane Foley to discuss American Mother on Tuesday, April 9 at 11 a.m. and award-winning and bestselling author Xochitl Gonzalez talking about her recent novel Anita de Monte Laughs Last on Wednesday, April 17 at 5 p.m.

An email campaign workshop will be held on Thursday, April 18 at 12 p.m. for small business owners with the help of a SCORE Business mentor.

For adults, teens and tweens, seven virtual reality headset workshops will be held throughout the month in addition to a temporary tattoo designing session as well as a commercial making event.

Six Star Wars Jedi Academy craft workshops will be held for children ages five and older.

More options are available for children ages eight to 12, such as a Pokémon tournament, microscope building event and a rubber band racer workshop.
