Watch out for plows while on the roadway as winter storm system bring snow to Inland Northwest

SPOKANE, Wash. — A winter storm system has hit Spokane and much of the Inland Northwest. As you wake up this morning, there hasn’t been too much accumulation of snow but city, state and county crews are preparing for 10 inches of snow.

According to the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT), there have already been multiple instances where vehicles have weaved in between the plows. They are urging drivers to respect their space and drive slowly behind them.

Come on folks… barely 4:30am and already we’ve had several near misses with vehicles weaving in between our trucks. We are out here for your benefit. Slow down and drive for conditions. pic.twitter.com/TEBusnVkA1— WSDOT East (@WSDOT_East) January 17, 2024

Currently along I-90 and other major highways, crews are out and ready to clear the roads to create better driving conditions for drivers. If you are headed out the door this morning, expect to see snow plows on the road.

If you see a plow ahead of you, WSDOT wants to remind you to:

Slow down.Give road crews plenty of room to work.Don’t pass a plow, operators have limited visibility of other vehicles and may be throwing snow from either direction.Leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you.Give yourself extra room to stop.

How slooooow can you go? We’re pushing some serious snow this morning. It is best not to pass. Snow is light fluffy and creating whiteout conditions off the plow. Please give our crews space to plow and treat this morning. pic.twitter.com/UIHKidy7Ll— WSDOT East (@WSDOT_East) January 17, 2024
