Washington Supreme Court denies review of decision made in lower court for Pac-12 case

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington State and Oregon State have taken one step closer to having full governing control of the Pac-12 board.

On Friday, the Washington Supreme Court ruled that they will not be reviewing the decision made in a lower court relating to the Pac-12 case.

On Dec. 16, the Supreme Court released that they would be looking at this case during their en banc meeting. Which is a meeting where justices gather to consider and deliberate on cases and case questions.

This meeting was closed to the public and was not recorded.

On Dec. 14, Whitman County Superior Court Judge Gary Libey ruled that WSU and OSU should be the only governing members of the Pac-12 board of directors.

Following this decision, the University of Washington had plans to challenge this review. This prompted UW to file an emergency motion to stay on Nov. 28.

UW and other departed Pac-12 schools asked the court to review the case, saying it caused “irreparable harm.”

On Dec. 15, the justices denied their motions and upheld Judge Libey’s rulings.

This is a developing story, updated will be made as information becomes available.
