OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol Trooper Basic Training graduation ceremony will take place on March 27 at the State Capitol Rotunda.

The graduation ceremony will be livestreamed and begin at 2 pm.

Trooper Basic training is 26 weeks long and requires the development of both physical and academic aptitude, including handling guns and self defense.

According to Washington State Patrol, there are 1,100 WSP troopers and an additional 1,100 civilian staff members.

The International Association of Chiefs of Police reports that law enforcement recruitment and retention levels have been consistently decreasing for years due to decreased interest amongst young people and public image issues.
