SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington Department of Ecology noticed a sheen floating down the Spokane River on Tuesday.

On Dec. 16, the sheen looked to have been about 20 yards wide with no distinct odor and very little color. A source for the sheen has not yet been found, but samples of the sheen have been taken to be tested and they are waiting on results.

The following day, the sheen had migrated down the river and was observed at Nine Mile Dam. Little to no sheen was observed from the original discovery point.

Earlier this morning, the Department of Ecology reported that the sheen had floated down to the Upriver Dam and started to collect. Cleanup action at this location has now been put into place.

There has been no impact to wildlife in the area, and crew will continue to investigate and monitor this incident.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
