RENO, Nev. – This morning the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and Reno police have located and arrested a walkaway Eastern State Hospital patient.

Spokane Valley detectives continued working to locate the Eastern State Hospital patient, 28-year-old Jamil M. Fields, who walked away from Valley Hospital on March 6, 2024, after a medical appointment.

With information that Fields may have fled the area with the assistance of an adult female, Regional Intelligence Group (RIG) Detectives and Investigative Analysts began working to verify this information and locate Fields.

Through the investigation police determined Fields and another accomplice 26-year-old Janine E. Ludwig had fled to Reno, Nev.

Spokane detectives then contacted Reno police and with their help were able to locate Fields in a motel in Reno.

On March 8, this morning Reno police then arrested and booked them into jail.

Fields’ felony arrest warrant is for 2nd-degree escape. The warrant for Ludwig charges her with assisting the escape of a patient and rendering criminal assistance of the 2nd Degree.

Both will remain in Nevada pending extradition back to Spokane County.
