Volunteers gather for two-week construction effort in Spokane Valley

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane’s 25th annual Blitz Build with Habitat for Humanity-Spokane kicks off Wednesday, June 3, in Spokane Valley.

Community members are invited to volunteer, support and celebrate this milestone event dedicated to building safe, decent, permanently affordable homes.

Presented by Bank of America, Blitz Build is a two-week construction effort that brings together hundreds of volunteers, sponsors, businesses, future homeowners and local leaders to help advance affordable homeownership in Spokane County.

This year’s Blitz Build will take place at 228 S. Carnahan Road on land donated by the City of Spokane Valley.

The land donation, combined with support from the Washington State Department of Commerce through the Connecting Housing to Infrastructure Program and Housing Trust Fund, reflects the layered public, private and philanthropic partnership required to build permanently affordable homes in today’s market.

“Blitz Build shows what it takes to create affordable homeownership in today’s market,” said Michelle Girardot, CEO of Habitat for Humanity-Spokane.

While Habitat builds year-round, Blitz Build is a concentrated effort that makes the work visible. Over two weeks, volunteers will help move construction forward and reduce costs, one of the ways Habitat is able to sell homes affordably to qualified buyers earning below 80% of the area median income.
