United States Postal Service prepared for busy holiday’s

SPOKANE, Wash. – The weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas for the United States Postal Service (USPS) are unsurprisingly the busiest time of the year.

“We’re doing about 225k parcels a day, both incoming and outgoing right now,” said Earl Eisenrich, Postmaster for the USPS.

With the massive rise in shopping online instead of in-store, the number of packages being sent and delivered continues to go up.

“Almost 3.5 years of huge spikes in volume,” said Eisenrich.

Thanks to more full-time employees and a better nationwide delivery system, the USPS facility in Spokane is prepared for the increase in demand. In fact, they will deliver more than 60 million letters and packages in roughly 30 days between the two major holidays.

“From collection to processing to delivery, all indications are that it’s going a lot smoother this year,” Eisenrich said, adding that Saturday is the magic day to get you packages shipped in order to get them before Christmas without having to pay extra for faster shipping.

And just as Santa returns to work after Christmas preparing for the next year, so does the United States Postal Service, working almost immediately on improvements and logistics to gear up for the next big rush of deliveries. “This is what we do, this is the season that postal employees rise up to, and we look forward to getting your packages and letters home in time for Christmas,” said Eisenrich.
