COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. – Two people were found dead in a University of Colorado dorm room, and the suspect in their deaths has now been taken into custody.

Police responded to a dorm on campus around 6 a.m. in response to a report of shots fired at the Alpine Village dorms on Feb. 16.

Samuel Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, were discovered with gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Nicolas Jordan, 25, was arrested and taken into custody on Feb. 19. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on two counts of first-degree murder. Authorities also revealed that both Jordan and Knopp were students at the University and were known to be roommates.

The deaths of the students prompted an hour-long campus lockdown until police determined it was an isolated event.

The University was closed over the weekend and Monday classes were cancelled so that students could take a ‘day of healing’.
