SPOKANE, Wash – Hundreds of families across the region were impacted by the Oregon Road and Gray Fires in August of 2023, and the loss spans far beyond the tens of thousands of acres that burned. Even with an outpouring of help in the days and weeks after the fire, there is still a great need five months later.

The Spokane Home Builders Association raised $77,400 for the Spokane Region Long Term Recovery Group. The group was created to help those impacted by the Gray and Oregon Road Fires.

On January 10th, a portion of the money raised was presented to the Mayor of Medical Lake, Terri Cooper.

“This is a perfect example of how long-term recovery groups are by designing a community response,” said Cooper.

The organization brings together both community and faith-based organizations to address critical unmet needs facing those impacted by the wildfire. The board members are those who know the community best, its residents, “We have 11 people on the board now, and they are all representing the community. They care about the outcomes,” said Cooper.

Hayden Homes donated $25,000 to the Spokane Region Long Term Recovery Group. Regional Manager Ben McGerty said organizations like this make rebuilding possible.

“Together, we can come out stronger on the other side, and with an organization like the Spokane Region Long Term Recovery Group leading the way, I know we will.”
