Suspect dead after 2 police officers shot him in downtown Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – The man shot by two Spokane police officers after he allegedly threatened two people with a knife on Monday is dead.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the man died in the hospital while receiving treatment for his injuries. His name and age will be released at a later time.

On Feb. 12, officers with the Spokane Police Department (SPD) received a call from a Department of Corrections (DOC) officer who said a man he was supervising was suicidal. The DOC officer told police the man was armed with a knife, threatening people with it near Post and Riverside.

When officers arrived at the scene, SPD said three officers deployed tasers to get the suspect under control, all attempts were unsuccessful. SPD confirmed two officers fired their weapons and the man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

SCSO confirmed on Feb. 13 that the man died in the hospital.

The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team is investigating this incident.
