SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department’s next chief will make at least $200,000 annually according to a public job listing for the role.

The salary range for the SPD chief position offered by the city is between $201,000 and $247,000.

Mayor Lisa Brown announced a national search for new fire and police chiefs in February to replace the interim leaders who took over in late 2023 following Brown’s ascension to the mayor’s office.

Julie O’Berg was appointed as interim fire chief before being permanently appointed to the position. Justin Lundgren has acted as the interim chief of police since December, though it is unclear whether he is also being considered for a permanent nomination.

Spokane is also hiring for police evidence technicians, who are paid between $43,000 and $68,000, and SPD officers, who make between between $65,000 and $120,000 according to City of Spokane job listings.

The per capita income in Spokane County was $38,000 from 2018 to 2022 according to the US Census Bureau. A levy lid lift including funding for additional police foot and bike patrols will be considered by voters in August.
