Spokane Valley man uses GPS trackers to help law enforcement catch porch pirates

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Tobias Diehl emigrated from Germany and currently works in offensive security.

He was encouraged to start a business that helps catch and track porch pirates after he had a package stolen from his doorstep.

“One of my packages was actually stolen right before Christmas and that’s when I decided something just had to be done about it,” Diehl said

Diehl puts a tracker inside a box to make it look like it is a fresh delivery. He places the box on the front porch as a decoy package to catch and track the thieves.

“I can then track the location per-GPS, using different solutions I’ve implemented into these electronics…And that information is then forward to law enforcement,” Diehl said.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) confirmed that Diehl has been in contact with them and that the department does use bait packages as a way to catch thieves.

SPD did clarify that the department is not partnering with Diehl as a private contractor and there is no official affiliation with SPD.

Diehl created a website http://protectmydeliveries.com/ and has already had people contact him for assistance.
