SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – Freeman Elementary School and Stevens Middle School will host the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Robotics Competition this weekend.

The FIRST LEGO League aims to guide youth through STEM learning and exploration. “From Discover, to Explore, and then to Challenge, students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while building habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way,” said the FIRST LEGO League website.

Talented young minds will showcase their technical skills through the design and programming of LEGO robots. The LEGOs must navigate various challenges, encouraging students to think critically, solve problems and work together.

“This event is not only an opportunity for participants to showcase their technical skills but also a chance for the community to witness the incredible projects these young engineers have developed,” said Adrianna Miller, Outreach Manager for FIRST Washington.

The event will be held on Dec. 9-10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Freeman Elementary School. Stevens Middle School will host the event on Dec. 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“FIRST Washington and its volunteers welcome everyone to attend this free event. Whether you are a parent, teacher, student, or a community member interested in STEM education, this competition promises an afternoon filled with excitement, innovation, and inspiration,” said Miller.
