Spokane Police Department release names of officers involved in the Feb. 12 shooting

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department (SPD) released the names of the officers involved in the shooting in downtown Spokane.

SPD releveled the names of officer Lee Baker and Seth Wolfe.

According to SPD, the suspect, who has been identified as Oscar Venegas was walking down Riverside when he displayed his knife and held it to someone’s throat. Venegas flashed the knife again, backing someone down the block and threatened to kill himself.

When officers arrived at the scene, three officers tried to use their tasers to get the suspect under control, all attempts were unsuccessful. SPD confirmed that the two officers used lethal force and contained the suspect.

Officers immediately provided medical aid and the suspect was transported to the hospital, where SPD said he was being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Venegas later died in the hospital.
