SPOKANE, Wash.- The Spokane Police Department (SPD) arrested a convicted felon who was armed with a gun and idling in front of the Cannon Street Shelter in a car on the night of Tuesday, Feb. 6. Police initially thought the man was a different person suspected of murder.
The SPD and SWAT coordinated an arrest of the man, Coby Adams, who the police suspected was in possession of a firearm and near the shelter in his vehicle. Officers mistook Adams for a murder suspect because he had similar face tattoos.
When police pulled behind his car, which had begun to drive away from the area, Adams and a woman who was with him both jumped out as it was moving.
After a brief chase, both Adams and the woman with him were found in a backyard.
The SPD soon realized that the fleeing man was not a murder suspect, but he was arrested for two counts of unlawfully owning a firearm. The woman with Adams was not arrested.
Adams is currently in Spokane County Jail and is facing two felony charges.
