Spokane police arrest domestic violence suspect after standoff on N. Division Street

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police officers have arrested a man after a standoff on north Division Street on Monday, who allegedly assaulted and injured a woman in Spokane.

On Oct. 9, officers began investigating a domestic violence incident that occurred in northeast Spokane.

A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had assaulted her the day prior and was armed with a machete. The next day, he returned to her apartment and allegedly assaulted her multiple times which included strangling her.

When speaking to law enforcement, they were able to visibly see injuries on the woman.

Officers established probable cause to arrest this suspect for burglary, DV and assault. They also obtained information that the suspect may be armed with a firearm and may have violent confrontation with law enforcement.

After 8 p.m., Spokane police found the suspect in a car in the 6700 block of north Division Street.

Officers were able to immobilize the vehicle but the suspect refused to surrender. The suspect began to get violent with law enforcement.

A chemical was deployed as the suspect approached officers, but he was still noncompliant. Then, a canine unit was used to apprehend the male.

He was taken into custody without any further issue. The 38-year-old man has 11 prior felony convictions in Washington for assault, violation of protection orders and burglary.
