SPOKANE, Wash. – Transportation Security Administration (TSA) anticipates a record number of travelers- more than 73,000 people- will be screened this holiday season at the Spokane International Airport (GEG).

Nationally, TSA is projecting to screen 2.69 million passengers on Wednesday and 2.9 million passengers on Sunday, which will likely be the busiest travel day for TSA since its inception in 2001.

“If you’re traveling one of those days, know that you’re coming during the peak time,” Lorie Dankers, a spokesperson for TSA, said.

Early Wednesday morning, the airport was filled with travelers and there were long lines for TSA security.

“The lines were excessive… the parking was very tight… stood in line… probably about an hour and a half,” Sheila Clark, a traveler arriving at GEG from Dallas, said.

The busiest times at GEG’s security checkpoints are 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

TSA reminds those traveling to plan ahead and be prepared for every step of the trip. They also advise that those traveling via aircraft arrive at the airport two hours early.
