SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — One man is in the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries following a deputy-involved shooting in Spokane Valley Tuesday night.

On Nov. 14 around 6:30 p.m., Spokane Valley Sheriff’s deputies were called to a possible domestic violence incident near the 6800 block of East 10th Avenue in Spokane Valley.

Dispatchers were told that a man broke a door to enter a residence and would not leave a woman alone. As deputies had a high volume of calls that night, they were not able to immediately respond.

After a few minutes, dispatchers got a call that the man had left the residence. Deputies checked the suspect’s name which revealed that he had an active domestic violence warrant out for his arrest and a no-contact order restraining him from being near the woman.

Deputies arrived at the residence to see that the man was back at the home armed with a gun. They reported that shots were fired minutes after their arrival and the man was struck.

Medical aid arrived on the scene and transported the suspect to the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

Once inside the home, deputies saw a firearm on the ground where the suspect was shot. It was taken into evidence as the Spokane Independent Investigative Response (SIIR) Team took over the investigation.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Spokane Valley Police Department will no longer be involved in this incident, all future updates will be provided by the SIIR Team.

As part of standard protocol, the deputy who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave.

This is an ongoing investigation; information will be updated as we learn more.
