SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane County Assessor’s Office has announced additional property tax relief available for victims who have lost their homes due to the Gray or Oregon Road fire.

“I am pleased to share that under state legislation passed in 2021, taxpayers may apply for a three-year exemption for physical improvement value added to single family dwellings because of property destroyed by the devastating Gray or Oregon Road Fires. In addition to earlier relief announced for assessed values, my office is here to be of assistance to taxpayers as our region continues to recover from the wildfires,” said Tom Konis, Spokane County Assessor.

The reduction in value must exceed 20% of the assessed value and must have occurred on or after Aug. 31, 2020.

The amount of the exemption cannot exceed the amount of the destroyed property.

All applications must be submitted to the Spokane County Assessor’s Office before starting construction on new improvements. Also, no applications can be approved after June 2026.

For more information call the Assessor’s Office at (509) 477-3698 or visit their website to locate the form. If you need more information on the tax exemption is available visit the Washington Department of Revenue website.
